The Beginning
The Hines story started on the Oxford High Street in 1830, the beginning of a long-established tradition in fine quality textiles, when Mr William Hine opened his gentlemen's tailors and outfitters business.
WP Hine & Co soon became one of the leading outfitters in the city of Oxford, supplying discerning customers, both local and visiting tourists, with high quality clothing from their quintessential English shop.

The Company Changes hands
The Hine family continued the outfitting business for several generations, serving an international clientele over many decades with gentlemen’s clothing including hand-tailored bespoke and readymade suits, coats and hats.
Pictured here, the company transferred to the current Robertson family ownership in 1950 who continued the business selling clothing and accessories in Oxford until 1979.
1979
Hines Tapestries
The company moved from the High Street in 1979 and began specialising in the world's finest woven Tapestries and home furnishings from France and Belgium.
With a wealth of experience in textiles, Hines became the market leader in the UK for tapestries and tapestry cushions, building showrooms and sewing workrooms in Oxford to meet an ever-growing demand for the collections.
1982
3rd Generation
As Hines continued to grow, the third generation of the family joined the business in 1982 further establishing Hines already renowned reputation for only the finest quality tapestries.
After trading for 3 years the tapestry collection had grown quite significantly offering a varied collection for quick delivery from stock.
1987
New Offices & Showroom
In order to serve a growing clientele better and to enable the business to experience more growth, new business premises were acquired on the East side of Oxford city. With excellent road and rail links and good parking facilities these new premises allowed customers to view tapestries in a central showroom environment within one hour from London.
These showrooms are still used by Hines today and are visited by 1,000s of visitors every year. Click here to discover more about the Hines Showrooms.
